During Qatar Sustainability Week, Grades 2 and 3 will measure and graph their cafeteria food waste with the goal of reducing waste each day. Students will post results on the school's Instagram page. We hope to transfer the practice to grades 4 and 5 and generally raise awareness around food waste.
We are organizing a Plastic-Free Week at the school, inspiring children to embrace sustainable alternatives. Every bit of plastic utilized will find a second life through recycling. Additionally, we invite staff to join the initiative by minimizing printing, opting for double-sided formats when feasible, and recycling any surplus paper.
Qatar Musuems (QM) is offering an exciting opportunity for students in grades 5 to 8 to express their artistic talents while raising awareness about environmental issues and sustainability. In collaboration with the National Museum of Qatar (NMOQ) team, QM will be organizing a "Sustainability Art Contest" where students can create artwork that highlights these sustainability-oriented themes. This initiative not only nurtures young artistic talent but also encourages a deeper understanding and appreciation of environmental and sustainability issues among the youth.
During Qatar Sustainability Week 2023, the students at Doha British School in Ain Khaled will actively participate in an insightful awareness and educational session. The focus will be learning about the global and local implications of plastic pollution and the climate crisis. The urgency of the matter is underscored by the United Nations' projection that, by 2050, our oceans could host more fish than plastic, provided immediate action is taken.
