In our attempt to tackle waste management and promote sustainability, DPS-Modern Indian School embarked on a Zero Waste Challenge during Qatar Sustainability Week 28th September-3rd October 2024. This initiative aimed to raise awareness and foster behavioral changes towards reducing waste.

Various activities were organized to engage and educate the community. Flyers, posters and animated videos were shared on social media platforms, emphasizing the importance of waste reduction and sustainable practices. Through these mediums, we reached a wide audience, sparking conversations and encouraging individuals to take action. Bulletin board topics related to the sustainability were given to classes of different grades for student’s work display aiming to bring awareness related to the sustainability.

Additionally, a survey was conducted to gather insights into current waste habits and identify areas for improvement. The feedback obtained enabled us to tailor our strategies effectively, addressing specific challenges faced by the community. Recognizing the pivotal role of educators, a teacher's awareness program was conducted. Teachers were encouraged to lead by example by refraining from using plastic cups and bottles and advocating for sustainable practices within their classrooms. As part of an initiative to reduce paper cup waste and promote sustainable development, the School Management gifted each teacher a personalized mug with their initials. Furthermore, they were urged to promote energy conservation by switching off electric gadgets when not in use, thus reducing unnecessary energy consumption.

Through these concerted efforts, our community has taken significant strides towards achieving zero waste goals. By fostering a culture of sustainability and empowering individuals to make conscious choices, we are paving the way for a cleaner and greener
future.
