Following the discussions during the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), countries around the world are exploring ways to cut carbon emissions and scale-up financing for emissions reductions. 

Qatar has a role to play in both areas. Qatar has placed sustainable economic development and environmental concerns at the heart of its National Vision 2030. In response, the government has set an ambitious goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2030. Qatar has made progress, especially if we consider the positive impact that liquefied natural gas (LNG), a transition fuel, has had on global emissions reduction targets. However, Qatar will need to identify other mitigation strategies to continue its progress. 

This workshop aims to explore pragmatic policy alternatives to carbon emissions mitigation and reduction that align with Qatar's National Vision 2030, its socio-economic context, and its environmental imperatives. The workshop will bring together a group of scholars involved in studying emissions reductions strategies in Qatar. 

The workshop will be organized into three sessions. The first will set the stage; the second will consider technical aspects of emissions reductions; and the third will consider policy alternatives, such as developing carbon markets and channeling development assistance to finance carbon action.
