The Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Qatar National Development Strategy both highlight the importance of preserving the environment for future generations and the sustainable consumption of scarce natural resources as key national objectives.
In support of Qatar Sustainability Week, 27 October – 3 November, the RA has invited Moza Al Mesef and Maryam Al-Mohamedi from Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation, better known as KAHRAMAA, to speak to us about Tarsheed, their programme dedicated to raising awareness about the need to conserve water and electricity.
Tarsheed is a strategic initiative on behalf of Qatar to formalise the State’s responsibility to protect existing resources. Over the past decade, Qatar’s population has almost tripled, resulting in huge increases in water and power consumption. Tarsheed’s target is to reduce electricity consumption by 20% and water consumption by 35% in Qatar over the coming five years.
