At Darwish Interserve, sustainability is at the core of our values, and we continuously seek innovative ways to minimize our environmental impact. As part of our ongoing commitment to reducing waste and promoting eco-friendly practices, we have implemented the “Print with Purpose” policy across our head office.
This policy serves as a comprehensive guide for all employees, outlining specific scenarios where printing is necessary and when digital alternatives should be used. Our goal is to significantly reduce our paper consumption while maintaining efficient operations.
The guideline for printing priorities is as follows:
- Critical Legal and Compliance Documents:
Documents required by law, such as contracts, agreements, and compliance paperwork, must be printed for official records. - Client-Facing Materials:
When necessary for external client meetings or presentations, hard copies of proposals or reports can be printed. However, digital formats are encouraged whenever acceptable by the client. - Internal Documents – Digital First:
All internal communications, reports, and memos must be shared via email or through our internal system. Departments are encouraged to collaborate digitally using cloud-based tools such as Google Workspace. - Meeting Materials:
Presentation slides, meeting notes, and agendas should be displayed on screens or shared electronically. Only when necessary, such as for large stakeholder meetings, should printed copies be considered. - Staff Notices and Announcements:
All company-wide notices or updates are to be shared through internal communication channels (intranet, emails) rather than printed bulletins or posters.
Technological Integration for Sustainability:
To further strengthen this initiative, we have embedded technological solutions to automate and enforce these guidelines:
- Double-Sided Printing: All office printers are configured to default to double-sided (duplex) printing to reduce paper usage. Staff are encouraged to review documents digitally before considering printing.
- Print Monitoring: A print management system is in place to track and report monthly printing activity across departments. This data helps us analyze trends and identify areas where further reductions can be made.
- Paperless Systems: Employees are encouraged to use digital signatures and electronic file-sharing platforms to minimize the need for hard copies. Regular training sessions on how to efficiently use digital tools and platforms are offered to help staff adopt paperless workflows.
We believe in the power of collective action, so employee engagement is a key aspect of our policy. We conduct regular workshops and awareness campaigns to highlight the environmental and financial benefits of reducing paper waste. We encourage all staff members to adopt a mindful approach when considering whether printing is truly necessary.
By embedding the “Print with Purpose” policy into our daily operations, we aim to not only reduce our environmental footprint but also inspire a culture of sustainability. This initiative, along with other eco-friendly measures we have implemented, demonstrates our commitment to leading the way in sustainable facilities management.
