During the Qatar Sustainability Week our people in Qatar will participate in a ''Minimize your waste competition'' and we invite you to join and compete with us! What does this mean? This means that from the 31st of October to the 7th of November our staff in Qatar will pledge to keep and separate all the waste that they have generated that week. At the end of the week your personal waste will be measured (in kg) and recorded. The person with the least waste generated wins. It's as simple as that and anyone can participate!
Before we start let’s agree on the rules of this game:
· The competition will start on the 31st of October at 00:01 and end on the 7th of November at 23:59
· With generated waste we literally mean ANY waste. *This includes bottles, cans, cups and paper bags. So, if you get a cup of thee or coffee somewhere and this is in a single use cup or plastic you will need to take this cup or plastic with you to measure at the end of the week. If you use a reusable cup you won’t so you will score better!
· Human waste (the ones coming from your body) is not included in this competition.
· Unfortunately waste segregation is not yet a common practice in Qatar so we will look at the total weight of the generated waste. That being said best practice would be to separate the waste into different categories (e.g. paper, plastic, glass, food, general).
· At the end of the competition please measure the waste bags on a weigh scale yourself and send your results to minimizeyourwaste@onepeterson.com or minimizeyourwaste@controlunion.com
· If you have a family or others in your household and it is hard to separate the waste the best thing to do is to measure your waste at the end of each day (or days) and divide this by the number of people that are in your household. Do tell them that you are competing because else it might interfere with your commitment. 😊
· If you don’t like to store these bags of waste for a whole week and wait for the results, we advise you to weigh your bags before throwing them away and start with a new bag. The sum of these bags at the end of the competition will be your result.
· No cheating is allowed. Mother nature sees everything!
With this event we want to create awareness and at the same time improve our environmental footprint. By measuring your waste for an entire week, we want to provide an eye-opener on the waste that you personally generate.
