Provided expert assistance to the local University, to enable them to conduct a research project on the feasibility of using sea water in Ready-mixed concrete.
Readymix Qatar Ltd. (a JV between LH and a local partner) facilitated the trial mixers used in the research study from the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, College of Engineering, Qatar University; and Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, University of Miami. A paper was published on the findings in 2018 - Fresh and hardened properties of seawater-mixed concrete: Adel Younis, Usama Ebead, Prannoy Suraneni, and Antonio Nanni. (Construction and Building Materials - journal homepage: www.elsevier.com/locate/conbuildmat).
The highlights were described in the paper as:
· An experimental study was conducted to investigate seawater-mixed concrete.
· A wide range of fresh and hardened properties of concrete were investigated
· Results were corroborated by isothermal calorimetry and SEM analytical techniques
· Remedial measures were proposed to improve the properties of seawater concrete.
Readymix Qatar as part of Lafarge Holcim was acknowledged with special thanks in the paper.
