Maryam Nemazee

Maryam is a news anchor, broadcaster, and journalist. She has worked in Europe, America, the Middle East, and Asia.

She covers global news and international politics with a particular focus on the Middle East. During her time at Al Jazeera English she has anchored programmes which provide a broad yet analytical approach to headline news, and trends around climate change, health and technology.

She’s been on-air for many of the big breaking stories of the past decade as they unfolded including the wars in Yemen, Syria, Ukraine, and Gaza.

She has covered prestigious events such the G20 summit of world leaders, and the annual World Economic Forum in Davos.

Previously, Maryam was a London-based anchor and correspondent with Bloomberg Television during the peak of the global financial crisis. She hosted the prime-time morning programme and led field coverage of the American and French presidential elections.

In recent months, Maryam chaired discussions with government ministers, regional directors and health experts for the UN’s World Health Organisation and collaborated with the World Food Programme.

She has moderated panel discussions for the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. This encompassed everything from the UN founding principles to the Coronavirus pandemic, refugees and migrants, and the rise of populism.

Maryam was part of the launch team for Al Jazeera English, and on-air broadcasting during the first 24 hours of news coverage by the channel.

She was born and raised in London and is a graduate of the University of Durham and City University.
