
As a practicing architect, educator, author, and pioneer in the movement for conservation of architectural heritage, Kamil Khan Mumtaz has been a leading influence in raising standards of architectural design in general and in the search for a contemporary, appropriate architecture for Pakistan responsive to climate, economy, and materials yet rooted in the indigenous culture.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS.
- Led a consultant team in preparing Lahore Urban Development & Traffic Study: including long- and short-term planning framework for metropolitan area of Lahore; and upgrading of Walled City.
- Author of books Architecture in Pakistan and Modernity and Tradition.
- Member of the Steering Committee of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture (1981-1984).
- Visiting Critic at Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at Harvard and MIT 1988.
- Awarded Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (1993).
- Sitara-e-Imtiaz (2019) awarded by Government of Pakistan for services to architecture.
