The Zero Waste Abaya project is a pioneering initiative led by renowned Qatari designer Reem Al Sulaiti. This project reimagines the traditional abaya, incorporating sustainability principles from the initial design phase through to the final product, setting a new standard for ethical and eco-friendly fashion in the MENA region.
The Zero Waste Abaya is a response to the fashion industry’s ongoing challenge of fabric waste. Typically, the production of an abaya can result in up to 40% of the fabric being discarded. Reem Al Sulaiti, driven by a commitment to sustainability and to develop innovative zero-waste patterns. These patterns are meticulously designed to use every inch of fabric, ensuring that no material is wasted during the cutting and sewing process. This approach not only conserves resources but also significantly reduces the environmental footprint of garment production. The result is a collection that embodies the elegance of traditional abayas while pioneering a new path in sustainable fashion.
The Zero Waste Abaya project is more than just a fashion statement; it is a call to action. Our goal is to inspire designers to rethink their approach to fashion, placing sustainability at the forefront of their creative processes. By demonstrating that it is possible to create beautiful, high-quality garments without compromising on environmental or ethical standards, we hope to shift the fashion landscape in the MENA region and beyond. This project also aims to educate consumers, empowering them to make more informed choices about the clothing they buy and the impact it has on the planet. We believe that through awareness and innovation, we can foster a new generation of designers and consumers who prioritize sustainability.
The launch is slated for November 2024, we would like to welcome students and fashion designers. We will be hosting free workshops to shre our study & innovation.
