A socially engaged project promoting textile recycling and the power of reinvention. “Cut from the same cloth” will be a collaboration which joins up existing local clothing recycling with a pilot to mechanically recycle clothing into fibre from which new textiles will be produced. During the Qatar UK Festival, a large installation at M7 of used clothes will be demonstrated by a team of diverse volunteers who will have conversations with the audience about recycling and reinvention. During the festival, the audience will be able to donate and help themselves to clothing if they commit to using it. During and after the festival audience will participate in preparing clothing for mechanical recycling by cutting off zippers and removing trims and buttons prior shipping some to Beximco factory in Bangladesh and the remaining clothing will be donated to local charities.
